Feedback Policy
Philosophy Statement
At Warren we recognise that children's progress must be consistently and systematically assessed by the teachers who are working with them. It is vital that children receive genuine and constructive feedback on their progress in a form which they can easily understand and which guides them towards the next steps in their learning. Back to topAims
- To involve the child in their learning.- Through marking children's work we aim to further the teachers' knowledge of the child, which then may contribute to their assessment.
- To provide evidence to other interested parties that the children's work is being monitored. Back to top
Guidelines
These are the basic principles, which all teachers must follow:Wherever possible, work should be discussed in consultation with the child so that they are offered specific diagnostic comment as well as encouragement.
Children should be made aware of the objective of the work and how well they are performing.
Marking should be focussed to the objective e.g. if the learning intention was the use of paragraphs it is not necessary to point out every other error.
Children will have detailed feedback in all core subjects at least once per week. These comments will be related to the objective. Children may be given suggestions as to how to improve their work during this feed back. Children will be encouraged to respond where appropriate.
All recorded work must be initialled and dated by a member of staff within a week of it being produced.
Individual targets must be set in reading, writing and maths. These will be identified through either formal or informal assessment. Targets should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and reviewed at least termly.
Work which is marked when the child is not present should conform to the agreed notation attached.
Only members of staff should provide written comments on children's work. All comments should be positive and informative.
Only blue pen should be used.
If a grade/mark is given then there must be a key to the criteria used.
