Philosophy Statement
At Warren we recognise the need to equip children with the necessary skills to become independent life-long learners capable of utilising a variety of tools to aid learning. In a technological age an essential part of this is the ability to effectively use the Internet as a mechanism for communicating and research. We understand the need for all members of staff to feel comfortable in the use of the Internet if effective teaching is to occur and place a high priority on staff training which keeps pace with technological development.
We believe that Parents/Carers have the right to refuse permission to allow their child to access the Internet. Parents/Carers will be given, and asked to complete, an Internet Access Form when their child becomes a member of Warren School. Parents will also be given the opportunity to refuse permission for their child to be videoed and/or to have their photograph taken by any external sources (i.e. local papers/media etc.) Back to top
Aims
We aim to:- Use the Internet to enhance children's learning across the curriculum by allowing them access to a richer source of material
- Develop electronic information research skills
- Develop appropriate skills to analyse and evaluate the information resources available on the Internet
- Develop the ICT skills of all staff through appropriate training Back to top
Time Allocation
Staff are encouraged to explore the use of the Internet in order to enhance children's learning, and this may include using the Internet for their own purposes from Monday to Friday during term time but will endeavour not to assess sites that contain pop ups. Back to topLesson Structure
Pupils will be taught how to use the Internet through the ICT Scheme of Work. Classes will use the Internet, where appropriate, to enhance their learning across the curriculum. Back to topPlanning
Use of the Internet in curriculum areas will be recorded on the planning sheet. Back to topEqual Opportunities
Teachers will ensure that every learner has equal access to the Internet. Back to topResources
All classroom computers have access to the Internet. Whilst Warren uses a filtered Internet Service, staff should ensure that children only have access to the Internet under adult supervision. Back to topMonitoring and Evaluation
See Monitoring and Evaluation Policy Back to topSafety
Children should be taught the inherent risks associated with all electrical equipment before being allowed to use ICT facilities independently of adult supervision.Teachers should, where possible, ensure that web sites are appropriate before allowing children to access them. However, children should be aware that some web sites contain inappropriate material, and should therefore be taught to develop appropriate skills to analyse and evaluate the information resources available on the Internet.
